Research shows that Black women are more likely to experience racial discrimination in healthcare settings, which contributes to increased stress and poor maternal outcomes. Centering Black women is about repair, belonging, and ensuring care is delivered in ways that reflect the lived experiences of those we serve. Matrescence creates Black-exclusive spaces because Black mothers deserve unapologetic environments where they do not have to explain their experiences or translate their realities. Our safe spaces allow for honesty and connection rooted in shared cultural understanding.
